We, the undersigned, declare the following:

The Parliamentary Assembly aims to uphold and enhance democracy, human rights and the rule of law. These principles are threatened whenever international relations and communications are distorted to silence democratic voices.

The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 addresses China’s representation in the UN. It does not deal with Taiwan’s legal status, authorise interference in other States' decisions on Taiwan, preclude Taiwan’s participation in international forums or endorse China’s proclaimed “One China Principle.”

China increasingly misuses Resolution 2758 to claim sovereignty over Taiwan and exclude it from international organisations, misrepresenting both the resolution’s language and intent. As a result, Taiwan remains excluded from key international bodies thus undermining global co-operation and denying the Taiwanese people the right to have a voice.

China’s political and military pressure, including grey-zone tactics, serves to destabilise the situation in Taiwan Strait, and poses a threat to regional and global security. Misusing UN resolutions to justify such actions can damage the rules-based international order.

We deeply regret China’s misuse UNGA Resolution 2758 in order to isolate Taiwan internationally and affirm Taiwan’s right to meaningful participation based on its democratic governance and contributions.

We call on the Assembly to appeal for peace in the Taiwan Strait and support the establishment of regular relations with the Parliament of Taiwan, consistent with the Assembly’s engagement with democratic partners.
