1. The Assembly welcomes the first general survey made by its Committee on Culture and Education of the situation of the cultural heritage in Central and Eastern Europe. It is, however, aware of the considerable variations in the situation in individual countries.

2. Believing that the general provisions of Recommendation 1172 can be brought into sharper focus by concentrating on individual countries, the Assembly asks this committee, and in particular its Sub-Committee on the Architectural and Artistic Heritage and general Rapporteur, to continue its individual fact-finding missions.
