22/04/2026 | 11:13:13 Mister President, I would like to thank the rapporteur for this important and timely report. Iceland signed the Istanbul Convention on the same day it was adopted but ratified it seven years later in 2018. Numerous other states have ratified the Convention. However, as is the case with progressive international treaties on women’s rights, ratification and full implementation have taken time in several Council of Europe member states. The value and impact of the Convention are profound. It is... 21/04/2026 | 11:31:54 Mister President, I would like to thank the rapporteur for this important report. Violence against politicians is rising, and it is not limited to the internet. It occurs both online and offline, ranging from harassment and threats to physical attacks and even killings. This is a highly sensitive issue. Any use of coercion against another human being must always be treated as an exceptional and last-resort measure. For that reason, the legal framework we adopt matters enormously. I wish to recall that Iceland has incorporated the United Nations Convention on... 02/10/2025 | 19:20:57 Madam President, I want to thank the rapporteurs for their excellent reports. I will use this opportunity to focus on the one on “Analysis and guidelines to guarantee the right to housing”. The report is both comprehensive and detailed, and I fully endorse its recommendations as described in the report. Today I want to highlight three areas: housing for young people, housing for low-income households, and housing for persons with disabilities. This includes meaningful participation of youth...
