23/11/2010 President
PACE President Mevlüt Çavusoglu met Bakir Izetbegovic, Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, today in Ankara, and congratulated him on his recent election to the tripartite Presidency.
In talks, the President pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina was “seriously lagging behind” in the implementation of its post-accession commitments to the Council of Europe, a matter for disappointment, but welcomed Mr Izetbegovic’s stated ambition to fulfil these commitments as soon as possible.
Mr Çavusoglu said that for its part, the Assembly supported the authorities in a constructive spirit, including Bosnia’s EU accession process. He noted that as from December 2010, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to travel visa-free to the EU.
Mr Çavusoglu was a co-rapporteur for the monitoring of Bosnia and Herzegovina prior to becoming President, and made an official visit to the country as President in March 2010.
