Strasbourg, 04.05.2012 – Robert Walter (United Kingdom, EDG), rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for post-monitoring dialogue with "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia", will make a fact-finding visit to the country from 7 to 10 May 2012.
Discussions will focus on implementation of PACE Resolution 1213 (2000) on the honouring of obligations and commitments by that country, follow-up to events after the elections of June 2011, implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement at local level, the impact of recent inter-ethnic incidents, reform of public administration and the situation of the media.
Talks are scheduled in Skopje in particlar with the President of the Republic, the Speaker of Parliament, the Vice-President of the Government responsible for the implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Transport and Communications and the Minister responsible for public administration reform.
The rapporteur will also hold discussions with the delegation of "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" to the PACE, the Public Prosecutor, the Chairs of the Lustration Commission and the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, as well as representatives of international organisations, NGOs and the media.
Mr Walter will also meet local authority representatives in Struga, Tetovo and Vevcani.
