23/05/2014 Standing Committee
The PACE believes that the early parliamentary elections held in Serbia on 16 March 2014 were conducted on a sound legal basis and offered voters a genuine choice. The report drafted by the head of the delegation observing this election, Pedro Agramunt (Spain, EPP/CD), approved today in Baku by the PACE Standing Committee, states that fundamental freedoms were upheld throughout the campaign and that the ballot proceeded in an organised manner.
However, based on the experience of these elections, PACE called on the Serbian authorities to improve the election legislation and its application, in particular by reinforcing the transparency concerning media ownership and improving the Law on the Financing of Public Activities, in order to make the reports on election campaign expenditure more efficient and more transparent.
