Orlando: President condemns the attack and expresses solidarity with victims and the LGBT community

Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly President Pedro Agramunt today expressed his shock at and condemnation of the Orlando terror attack that left 50 people dead and more than 50 wounded. He expressed his solidarity with the American people, the victims and with the LGBT community.

“Orlando matters, Istanbul matter, Brussels matters, Paris matters. These and others attacks matter because terrorism seeks to destroy our way of life, our freedoms and core values, by propagating hate and instilling fear. We must not fall into the trap of terrorists. We must not allow this barbarism to triumph over democratic values and liberties,” the President said.

He reaffirmed PACE’s solidarity with the American people and authorities and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.

The Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly will launch a #NoHateNoFear initiative, encouraging all members of society to stand firm against the terrorist threat by refusing to give in to hatred or fear, at its summer session in Strasbourg on 20 June.
