“By promoting a cultural environment rich in diversity, education and creation, you are helping to build a world of greater dignity, justice and solidarity,” said PACE President Liliane Maury Pasquier, noting that this mission was essential in the face of the emergence of extremist and anti-democratic movements.
Speaking at the opening of a joint meeting in Berne of two PACE sub-committees, those on Culture, Diversity and Heritage, and on Media and the Information Society, the President also mentioned the importance of media education, promoting the safety of journalists and preserving cultural heritage.
During the meeting, educational experts and journalists explained the training being offered to children and young people in Switzerland on how to handle the new media environment. Participants also visited the Museum of Communication in Bern, the winner of the 2019 Museum Prize.
