Accountability and transparency are the pillars of good governance, says PACE President

“Accountability in the management of public funds and transparency are the pillars of good governance and parliaments play a key role in ensuring that these principles are implemented,” today said PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in New-York, addressing a parliamentary hearing organised jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations, on “Strengthening political accountability for a more peaceful and prosperous world”.

During his two-day working visit to the United Kingdom ending today, PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, welcomed the priorities of the UK presidency which hand in hand coincide with the priorities of the Assembly, in particular the emphasis put on the Reform of the Court. He recalled that as stated in PACE Resolution 1726, this process should take into account, the need to strengthen the implementation of Convention rights at the national level;

PACE to observe parliamentary elections in Morocco

A 15-member PACE delegation, led by Tomáš Jirsa (Czech Republic, EDG), will visit Morocco from 22 to 26 November 2011 to observe the parliamentary elections on 25 November. The delegation will meet, inter alia, representatives of the parliamentary groups, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior in charge of election administration, the President of the National Human Rights Council and representatives of civil society, the media and political parties not represented in parliament.

At the end of his working visit to Monaco, in the margins of the Conference on the Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child 2012-2015, PACE President today met with the Minister of State Michel Roger and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Badia. Mr Cavusoglu praised “the commitment of the Monegasque authorities” to the Council of Europe standards and values.

PACE President makes working visit to the United Kingdom

PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will undertake a working visit to the United Kingdom on 21-23 November 2011, during which he is due to meet the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, the Lord Speaker, the Chair of the House of Lords EU Select Committee, the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Turkey and the Chair of the delegation of the United Kingdom to PACE. PACE President makes official visit to Algeria

PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu is making an official visit to Algeria on 13-16 November. He will hold talks with, in particular, the President of the National People’s Assembly, the Chairman of the Council of the Nation, the Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs. He will also meet the Chairman of the National Consultative Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights.
