Bosnia and Herzegovina: fact-finding visit by PACE monitoring co-rapporteurs

Karin S. Woldseth (Norway, EDG) and Egidijus Vareikis (Lithuania, EPP/CD), co-rapporteurs for the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s (PACE) monitoring of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will make a fact-finding visit to the country from 3 to 5 June 2013. In Sarajevo, they are due to meet members of the Presidency, the Foreign Minister and members of the Bosnian parliamentary delegation to PACE, as well as the High Representative, the EU Special Representative and other diplomatic representatives.

States should encourage men to take up parental leave

European governments should actively encourage men to take up parental leave, the Parliamentary Assembly has said. In a resolution voted today, based on a report by Andrea Rigoni (Italy, ALDE), PACE’s Standing Committee said parental leave schemes should enable parents, irrespective of their sex, to look after their children on an equal footing.

Re-eligibility of committee chairpersons or vice-chairpersons

The Standing Committee of the PACE decided today in Yerevan that if a committee chair or vice-chair falls vacant in the course of a session, a former chairperson or vice-chairperson of that committee who has served two complete terms may be elected for an incomplete term until the end of that session (this decision will not apply to sub-committees).

PACE President invites Georgia’s political forces to develop a culture of political cohabitation

At the end of his official visit to Georgia, PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon has welcomed the democratic transition of power in the country following the parliamentary elections in October 2012, which were generally considered by observers to have been free and fair. He invited the authorities, and all political forces, to continue developing a culture of political cohabitation, calling for mutual respect between the different parties.
