PACE’s Monitoring Committee today appointed Kerstin Lundgren (Sweden, ALDE) and Jana Fiszcherová (Czech Republic, EDG) as co-rapporteurs to prepare an opinion on the motion “Serious setbacks in the fields of the rule of law and human rights in Hungary” to be submitted to the Bureau of the Assembly. The Monitoring Committee is responsible for verifying the fulfilment of obligations assumed by member states under the terms of the Statute of the Council of Europe, the European Convention on Human Rights and all other Council of Europe conventions to which they are parties, as well as the honouring of commitments entered into by the authorities of member States upon accession to the Council of Europe.
