An official ceremony at the Jewish cemetery where hundreds of tombs were damaged on the night of 14-15 February was held today in Sarre-Union, France. Anne Brasseur, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), took part in the ceremony alongside French President François Hollande, the Presidents of both chambers of the French Parliament, the Interior Minister and representatives of local authorities, as well as religious leaders.
“Intolerance, extremism and anti-Semitism are dangerous threats to the values we cherish of living together in mutual respect and harmony. This is exactly why we need to stand united against intolerance. All democratic forces, despite political differences, have to unite their efforts together with civil society and religious communities in order to combat xenophobia and anti-Semitism, which pose a threat to democracy,” said Mrs Brasseur after the ceremony.
