The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has issued a resolution emphasising the urgent need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine, following Russia’s illegal military aggression since 2014 and the intensified invasion in 2022. The resolution denounces Russia's refusal to cease hostilities and highlights widespread violations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity. It stresses that Ukraine's security is integral to European stability and condemns Russia's ongoing threats and provocations across the continent. The Assembly calls for unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and its integration into the European Union, urging member states to strengthen diplomatic, military, and economic support. It advocates for robust legally binding security guarantees for Ukraine, accountability for Russia’s actions through international claims and tribunals, and gradual lifting of sanctions contingent on compliance with peace agreements. Additionally, it underscores the importance of enhancing European security architecture, resilience, and democratic security, recognising Ukraine's efforts amidst challenges posed by Russia’s aggression.
