03/10/2019 | 18:25:55 There are many reasons why people might migrate or move. Poverty, war, famine, all of those things. But this specifically deals with climate change. My message to my own government, and to the world really, and to Europe, is that we need to get our move on and we need to wake up a little bit. How many times are we going to debate this? How many times are we going to discuss this? It's incredible! When you read on the front of the document here, that global warming is a concern shared by all... 02/10/2019 | 17:05:50 Thank you Madame Chair, and can I start by congratulating the rapporteur on what is an excellent report. I was particularly moved to say something in this debate alongside a couple of comments by the recommendation number 5 in the draft resolution, where it talks about the Assembly regretting that certain countries are not parts of the Council of Europe Development Bank, and the United Kingdom, my own country, being one of those countries. I think it's astonishing that, here we are in 2019, and we're reading these brilliant reports which are before us about violence against women, about the lack of gender equality. It is quite astonishing. Reading the report, there was a woman, Olympe de Gouges, a French activist and author, who in 1791 wrote "A Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female Citizen". Can people in here imagine, if she was 228 years old and coming and sitting in here... 23/01/2019 | 18:47:11 I too congratulate the two colleagues who introduced these important reports. I was shocked when I did some research around the reports to see the context in which we are discussing them today. All of us would wish to be inclusive, but if we look across Europe, we see that disability hate crime is rising. We see that there is still significant stereotyping of people with physical and mental disabilities. The reports are welcome in that they seek to challenge those stereotypes and the way in...
