The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has condemned the Iranian government's brutal suppression of protests and systematic human rights violations. This suppression has intensified with the escalation of armed conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, exacerbating regional instability. The Assembly highlights the plight of Iranian civilians, particularly targeting women, minorities, and dissidents. It criticises Iran’s use of the death penalty and the repression of civil society, urging the immediate release of detainees and calling for the abolition of the death penalty. Furthermore, there is serious concern over Iran's transnational repression in Europe, which includes acts of intimidation and violence against the Iranian diaspora and critical voices. The Assembly calls for enhanced support for Iranian civil society and stresses that human rights, democracy, and the rule of law must be central to international engagements with Iran, to ensure a peaceful resolution and stable future for the region.
