L'APCE débattra avec des jeunes, à Budapest, de la manière de rétablir la confiance dans la démocratie

[En cours de traduction]

How to rebuild the trust of young people in democracy will be the focus of a major parliamentary conference taking place in Budapest on 27 October.

Organised by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) together with the Hungarian National Assembly, the conference – with the title Educate. Engage. Empower. Youth Shaping Democracy – will bring together parliamentarians, youth representatives and experts to explore ways of strengthening democratic participation among the young.

The opening session features addresses by the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Ágnes Forsthoffer, PACE President Petra Bayr, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Tanja Gonggrijp and Hungary’s Minister of Education and Children's Affairs Judit Lannert.

Discussions will focus on young people's participation in democratic life, the role of parliaments in fostering their engagement and trust, and the contribution of education to strengthening democratic values.

The conference is preceded by a youth-focused event, Renewing Youth Engagement in Democratic Societies: Listen. Engage. Shape the Future, taking place on 26 October at the European Youth Centre in Budapest. Organised in the context of the Council of Europe's New Democratic Pact for Europe, it will bring young people and parliamentarians together – including via the format of a “reverse parliament” – to find ways to rebuild trust between generations and reinvent democratic participation and co-decision.
