“Enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of parliamentary information through AI has become one of our strategic priorities. With nearly seven years of practical experience, we have directly observed both the considerable benefits and significant considerations inherent in the deployment of AI”, today said PACE Secretary General Despina Chatzivassiliou at the opening of the meeting of Secretaries General of Parliaments, organised in the framework of the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament. The main item on the agenda was “Opportunities and challenges of AI technologies for parliaments”.
“Since 2018, our Assembly has successfully implemented artificial intelligence technologies, notably improving the transcription processes of plenary session debates. More recently, we launched another ambitious initiative employing AI to summarise PACE’s Adopted Texts, making them more accessible to a broader audience”, she added.
The PACE Secretary General called for strengthening exchanges at technical and expert level, possibly in the form of a network of IT experts in Parliaments.
The participants also discussed the activity report of the European Centre for Parliamentary Research and Documentation (ECPRD) for the years 2023-2024, as well as the Centre's priorities and programme for the next two years.
