A five-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), headed by David Wilshire (, EDG) will be observing the parliamentary elections in on 18 August alongside observers from the OSCE/ODIHR and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The delegation will visit the country from 16 to 19 August, meeting with members of political parties, election officials and representatives of civil society and the media.
This observation is taking place under an April 2004 co-operation agreement between PACE and the Kazakh Parliament, geared to promoting parliamentary democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights in Kazakhstan.
The observers will present their conclusions at a press conference to be held on 19 August at 3 pm (time to be confirmed) in the Rixos Hotel (Tauelsizdik, 7th, Astana).
