Strasbourg, 19.06.2008 – A group of 20 members of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) have requested the holding of an urgent debate on the proposal for 42-day pre-charge detention in the United Kingdom at the Assembly’s summer plenary session next week in Strasbourg (23-27 June).
The Assembly brings together 318 parliamentarians from the 47 countries of the Council of Europe, which oversees the European Court of Human Rights.
The Assembly will decide on this request when it adopts its final order of business around midday on Monday 23 June, the first day of the week-long session.
