22/09/2008 President
, 22.09.2008 - Lluís Maria de Puig, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), today firmly condemned the weekend’s terrorist attacks in Ondarroa and and the one in Santoña in which Staff Sergeant Luis Conde de la Cruz was killed.
“On behalf of the Assembly, I extend our condolences to the victim’s family and express our complete solidarity with those who have been wounded.
No cause in the world could justify such appalling acts. Terrorist organisation ETA, which had in recent days seen its immediate environment affected by police action and court decisions, chose a method calculated to kill as many people as it could. There is no possible political justification for such a despicable act. Terrorists take a narrow view of society, for which they have a single aim, namely to propagate hatred and barbarity. This is why they use violence against the rule of law.
There is no room in our democratic societies for terrorists. I hope that the perpetrators of these appalling acts will speedily be arrested, tried and convicted”, concluded the President.
