Strasbourg, 04.12.2009 – Renate Wohlwend (Liechtenstein, EPP/CD), co-rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on the honouring of obligations and commitments by Ukraine, will make a fact-finding visit to Kyiv on 7-8 December, during which she will examine the legal framework for the presidential elections on 17 January 2010, and take stock of the reform of the Prokuratura (Office of the Public Prosecutor), the reform of the judiciary and the drafting of a unified election code.
Meetings will also be held with the President of the Ukrainian Parliament Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Minister of Justice Mykola Onischuk, the President of the Supreme Court Vasyl Onopenko and a representative of the National Constitutional Council. Mrs Wohlwend will also meet the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, the members of a parliamentary working group on the drafting of a unified election code and representatives of NGOs.
