Disabled children at school: PACE calls for greater inclusivity

Children who are ill or disabled should be educated – wherever possible – at mainstream schools, an arrangement which is better both for them and their peers, PACE has said. Debating a report by Lokman Ayva (Turkey, EPP/CD), the Assembly said arrangements for these children should be as inclusive as possible.

Hayrünnisa Gül, patron of the “Education enables” campaign in Turkey, told parliamentarians that efforts in her country to persuade families of disabled children to send them to school were bearing fruit. "In integrated education, children learn how to live together, learn tolerance and learn to accept each others’ differences," she pointed out.
