Paris hearings on combating child pornography, helping children after natural disasters

Strasbourg, 18.03.2011 – The Committee on Social, Health and Family Affairs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is organising a hearing in Paris on Tuesday 22 March (3-5 p.m.) on “Combating child pornography as part of the campaign to stop sexual violence against children”.

The hearing, in the framework of a report by Agustín Conde Bajén (Spain, EPP/CD), will look in particular at combating child pornography at local level, and how to fight the sexual exploitation of children via new information technology. Participants include Madrid’s Childrens’ Ombudsman, the head of the French police unit investigating these crimes, and the head of the “Children and new media” unit of Save the Children Italy.

There will be a hearing the following day, Wednesday 23 March (3-4.30 p.m), on “What can Europe do for children in the aftermath of natural disasters and crisis situations: the example of Haiti” in the framework of a report by Francoise Hostalier (France, EPP/CD).

Both hearings, in the Council of Europe office in Paris (55 avenue Kléber, Paris 16e, Metro: Boissière), are open to the press.
