07/04/2011 Equality and Non-Discrimination
The network of contact parliamentarians to stop sexual violence against children will be meeting for the second time in Strasbourg, on Wednesday 13 April at 2 pm (Room 6). They will be looking at how to combat child pornography on the Internet.
The meeting, chaired by Liliane Maury Pasquier (Switzerland, SOC), will open with a presentation by John Carr, Senior expert-adviser to the International Telecommunication Union, Child Online Protection Initiative (United Kingdom) on ways of fighting child pornography on the Internet. This presentation will be followed by a discussion with parliamentarians on this topic.
New contact parliamentarians have been appointed since January 2011, bringing their present number up to 37, including one representative from the Parliamentary Assembly of Francophonie. Following the meeting, a group photograph of participants will be taken on the steps leading up to the Assembly Chamber.
During the Assembly’s second part-session, the parliamentarians will also have the opportunity to discover two new communication initiatives: a brochure and newsletter to be published in each Assembly part-session. These documents have been produced by the Assembly to explain and promote the parliamentary dimension of the Council of Europe’s ONE in FIVE campaign to combat sexual violence against children. These should enable parliamentarians to promote the campaign in their national parliaments and their respective constituencies.
