“Sexual violence against children is a complex, sensitive, widespread phenomenon which can only be addressed if all social and political forces join their efforts,” said Gagik Baghdasaryan (Armenia, ALDE) in Yerevan today, representing PACE at a regional seminar on the rights of the most vulnerable children jointly organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and UNICEF.
“I am convinced that national parliaments are amongst the key players at national level when it comes to strengthening legislation and implementing higher standards of child protection”, he added. In this respect, he recalled that PACE has developed the parliamentary dimension of the Council of Europe ONE in FIVE Campaign to stop sexual violence against children with a view to associating national parliaments with the campaign.
