Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni is the new Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe

Strasbourg, 26.06.2012 - Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni (Italy) was elected today by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) as the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe by 133 votes to 117 for the other candidate, Gérard Stoudmann (Switzerland). 

She will take up office on 1 September 2012 for a period of three years, and replaces Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, whose term of office expires on 31 August, having performed this function since 1 September 2002.

Since October 2011, Ms Battaini-Dragoni has been the Director General of Programmes at the Council of Europe, responsible for overseeing the preparation and implementation of the Organisation’s biennial programme of activities in the intergovernmental field. 

She is a graduate of the Institut Européen des Hautes Etudes Internationales of the University of Nice and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign languages and literature from the University of Venice.
