24/06/2013 Political Affairs and Democracy
Strasbourg, 24.06.2013 – “On Saturday the authorities in Gaza made public the execution of two so-called ‘collaborators’. These executions are a clear violation of the ‘Partnership for democracy’ with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in which the Palestinian National Council (PNC) took upon itself to maintain the moratorium on executions,” said the PACE rapporteur responsible for assessing the partnership, Tiny Kox (Netherlands, UEL).
“All Palestinian political factions were in support of the partnership agreement with PACE, including Hamas. We call upon the Palestinian authorities to intensify their efforts to avoid illegal executions in Gaza and on Hamas to respect the obligations the PNC took on when becoming a partner to PACE.”
The PNC sends a delegation to the Assembly, whose summer plenary session begins today in Strasbourg.
