On opening the PACE session today, Anne Brasseur marked International Roma Day by calling on the member states to take practical measures to break the vicious circle of discrimination affecting many Roma.
“This circle will only be completely broken when representatives of this minority can participate actively in the politics of our states and make their voices heard in our institutions”, she said, pointing out that it was only by ensuring that Roma, including Roma girls, had access to education that the first small breach could be opened.
