Anne Brasseur, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), is currently making an official visit to Germany on 12-14 January 2015.
Discussions will include, in particular, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the fight against intolerance and hate speech, the situation of human rights, freedom of expression and freedom of the press and the rule of law in a number of member states and the Council of Europe’s role in this context, and recent and ongoing work in the Assembly regarding Germany.
During her visit, she is due to meet in Berlin the President of the Federal Republic, the President and Vice-President of the Bundestag, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Justice, and Finance, leaders of political groups, and members of the German delegation to PACE.
Ms Brasseur will also visit the Berlin Centre for the Treatment of Torture Victims and the German Institute of Human Rights.
Following the Paris terrorist attacks, she is also due to accompany the President of the Bundestag at a march in favour of tolerance organised by Germany's Muslim community.
