The Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will hold a conference on 6 December in Strasbourg on “The Council of Europe's fight against child abuse in institutions in Europe”, in collaboration with the Swiss delegation to PACE and the Guido Fluri Foundation.

This conference is part of the follow-up to PACE Resolution 2533 (2024) adopted in January 2024, which calls for the recognition of child abuse in institutions across Europe and, drawing on Switzerland's example of good practice, advocates full reparation for all violence committed against children, including sexual abuse, physical violence and ill-treatment in public, private and religious institutions.

The conference will take stock of child abuse in Europe, describe how Switzerland has dealt with cases of child abuse and compensated victims, look at clerical sexual abuse, and examine the implementation of Resolution 2533 (2024) in Council of Europe member states.

The event will include the participation of parliamentarians, politicians, NGO representatives, academics and victims who will give their testimonies.
